I'm having anxiety this evening about going into an office for the first time in two years and occupying a cube. I just have to keep reminding myself why I'm doing this and it isn't going to last forever.

CNN and other news stations are advertising "Sons of Saddam", which almost sounds like "Sons of Satan." The death of Uday and Qusay Hussein delivers a huge psychological blow to any resistance in Iraq. However, their deaths doesn't seem to have stopped the attacks as two more U.S. soldiers were killed and nine injured today. I'm glad we didn't capture them alive. I don't think they would have allowed us to capture them alive. They probably would have killed themselves before allow capture.

I feel that the U.S. is treading a fine line between rebuilding a nation and trying to bring some semblance of order back to the country. There was almost no period of true occupation with a police state in charge. In order to stop these attacks, a police state needs to be declared and the pockets of resistance stamped out. These pockets of resistance not only present a danger to U.S. soldiers, but also any innocent bystanders. Only once military attacks have stopped for a period of time can the country be prepared for rebuilding. The White House and others governments were too hasty in their pursuit of rebuilding Iraq. You can't turn a twenty plus year dictatorship into a democracy in a few months.

I have been making the transition from working independently to working for a company. My new job at Darwin Partners begins on Monday. I have been slowly integrating myself into their processes and spending time in the office this week so that Monday is not so much of a shock. I can already tell that the challenging part of the job is going to be time management. I am going to have more people wanting substantial chunks of my time. Fortunately, the boundaries have been set in that I am managing a small number of large clients and I have a full-time consulting commitment through the end of October. We will see how this works out.
