Security researchers are warning of a security hole in Yahoo Inc.'s Messenger that could allow attackers to run their own code on computers using the instant messaging program. [InfoWorld: Security] My prediction is that this is the one of the first of many more instant messaging security flaws to be discovered.

Big Blue has a plan to snag customers who use storage gear from rival EMC. It includes a device that shifts data from EMC to IBM boxes without any computer downtime, Big Blue says. [CNET News.com - Front Door] This might be very interesting. Though I don't believe the no downtime claim. The article contains no detail, but a description like this deserves some investigation.

My wife has been asking me to buy a small stereo system for the nursery so that she can play music for Molly. We took a look at small shelf stereo systems and they seemed to have gotten larger. We didn't like anything we found. All she wants to do is be able to play CD's or listen to the radio. Then it hit me. Why don't we just buy a pair of speakers for my iPod that sits idle while I am at work and asleep and put it in the nursery? We bought a pair of Bose MediaMate Computer Speakers. They aren't he prettiest or most expensive speakers, but they kick the snot out of anything else we listened to at Best Buy in the same category. I ripped all the CD's my wife wanted to play tonight and by bedtime we had a sound system in the nursery. All I have to do is buy the AM/FM receiver for the iPod and we are all set. However, I don't think I want to forfeit my iPod. I think I just discovered a Christmas present for my wife and daughter. This scenario is only made possible with iTunes for Windows since my wife can't operate anything but Windows.

I broke down and bought what I know works -- another Plantronics headset. I bought the Plantronics DSP-400 which is a foldable version of the DSP-300 I have at home. Why invest in this type of headset? I am on the phone all day, my phone is a piece of software, the Cisco Softphone, and the analog jacks on my laptop just don't cut it. Once you go digital, there is no going back to analog. People tell me my Softphone sounds better than any land line, let alone mobile phone, that I've ever talked to them on. As more and more voice applications make their way onto my hard drive, these Plantronics headsets are well worth the investment.
