VMworld 2007 Observations
Posted by Dann in VMworld 2007 on September 14th, 2007
While not entirely surprising, most of the most advanced topics presented at VMworld 2007 such as hardware performance, virtual machine performance, ESX memory architecture, etc. were presented by Indians; Indian nationals, H1-B visa holders, or Indian nationals come US citizens. It can effectively be said that they were teaching the ranks of the technology architects of the more advanced IT organizations of the US economy and government. There was a decently substantial international presence at the conference as well. Most European countries were represented by private corporations or government employees. In general, the conference was a huge success. The buzz throughout the conference was palpable. For a lot of us who have been working with x86 virtualization for years, it was a great place to share experiences and war stories, a chance to meet with the VMware product teams, and a great place to get a sense for the evolving ecosystem developing around x86 virtualization. I was on the hunt for a capacity, performance, and chargeback tool or tool suite. I’ll detail my findings in the next post.
