Molly is almost walking! She is aggressively using her walkers in the past couple of days. We are strongly supporting her efforts. We hope that in the next few weeks she'll be walking on her own.

This year I am thankful for many things. I am especially thankful to be married to an amazing and strong woman, Shellie, who I often wonder if I deserve. I am thankful for our daughter who has taught me so much about life in her first year in this world. We successfully made it through our first year of parenthood alive, which included a transcontinental move. I am thankful for old friends and new. To our old friends (John & Marie, Brian & Jen, Amy, Marina, Victor, Steve, Rick, Paul), thank you for understanding and supporting the difficult decisions we made this year. To our new friends (Steve & Christy, Matt & Chanda, Henry & Rachel), thanks for being here with open arms when we arrived in San Diego. A special thanks to my brother and sister in-law, Chuck and Pam, for helping us make the move much easier. We really could not have done it without you. To our family, weíre here. We know how happy you all are to have us back on the left coast. We are happy to be closer to you as well. We are thankful to have so many wonderful people in our lives. The challenges of the year are not yet over, but we face them knowing that the decisions will come easier with all of you in our lives. Have a wonderful, safe, and happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Molly has discovered stairs. She loves going up them and then sliding down them on her rear. It's quite amusing yet a little disconcerting for Shellie and I.

Today was the first day since moving to San Diego we've had a chance to enjoy our house. I know this doesn't have much to do with Molly and yet it does. We purchased some nice patio furniture this last week. It came in one huge box. Shellie and I spent the bulk of Thursday evening assembling it. Today I purcahsed a nice grill. This evening we had some friends over for dinner while Amy, a friend from Boston, is here for the weekend. We sat outside most of the evening. Molly loved watching the palms sway in the breeze and the stars come out. It was nice to be able to have a small gathering at our place and not feel cramped.

I took Molly to Home Depot last night to grab a few things. As we were leaving, we saw a baby in another cart. I said, "Look, Molly, there's another baby." She pointed to the other baby and said, "Baby!" I just about fainted right then and there. Her verbal skills are truly amazing. She is saying, "hi" in response to someone else saying "hi" to her first. She is saying "mama" and "dada." She can't quite say "banana" yet, but she has shortened it to "nana." However, she uses "nana" as the word for just about any form of food right now. The other night while we were eating dinner she blurted out her first phrase, "Hi, baby." Shellie and I just looked at each other and started clapping. Molly gave use the weirdest look and then started clapping with us.

Molly is really learning how to get around. She has perfected her scooting and can get just about anywhere now. She has taken a liking to our cupboards and cabinets. Molly believes that our cabinets and cupboards should only contain her toys. It is time to install babygates and the rest of the safety equipment.

We went to Palm Desert for an overnight stay at Shellie's mom's this weekend. It was quite nice. The drive wasn't bad at all. It only took two hours from our house to her's. We even got to leave Molly with Jan for a few hours to see a movie. This was the first time since New Year's that Shellie and I have had a chance to be by ourselves. We really just find some babysitters so that we can get out more frequently.

Molly turned 11 months old yesterday. In just a month she will be a year. Shellie and I have been reflecting on what life was like a year ago. It has only been a year, but seems like it was forever ago.

Molly is becoming much more mobile. She is almost crawling and can scoot or roll herself across a room quite proficiently now. She is also developing her balance. She like pulling herself up on things and loves it when I help her up. Just in the past couple of days she has started to put one foot in front of the other while being guided. The next month should prove to be very interesting.

Well, I spoke too soon. I came down with the same cold/flu that Shellie and Molly had. I didn't seem to have quite as bad as they did, however. I'm finally back online and writing.

It hit me today that we really have to start taking more pictures. All the pictures we've taken over the past year still fit on one CD. We've also got to pull out the video camera more often. We've got a great Sony digital that barely gets used and my Apple PowerBook G4 that is perfect for video editing. All we need to do is think about recording and photographing things we do.

Molly is changing very rapidly. Just this weekend she has figured out how to move herself across a room by scooting on her butt or rolling. Yesterday she was taking it slow. It would take her about five minutes to get across our living room. Today it takes her all of 30 seconds. Just a week ago we were talking about how we could hardly wait for her to crawl and walk. If the past couple of days are an indication of what is to come, Shellie and I are a little scared. Molly is fast and she is smart. A very dangerous combination.

Swimming early in the morning, like around 6am, is quite nice. Our health club has an outdoor pool that opens at 5am. No one lives in their houses here. Everyone lives outside. Houses, for the most part, are just meant for eating and sleeping. This is very strange for us coming from New England. I get very strange looks from people at work when I tell them we took it easy over the weekend and just hung around the house.

Living is Southern California is a little weird. In the Boston area it is about this time of year we usually pull out the warmer clothes as the weather begins to change. Instead, it still fills like summer. This is new and a little strange for us. I have some other subtle observations about life in Southern California. How did Boston drivers get the reputation for being the worst drivers in the country? I have never seen so many accidents in my life as I have seen here in the past two months. Leave it to California to allow heart shapes and smiley faces on their license plates. I'd love to hear a police officer call in a plate with one of the permitted shapes on it. Weíve been working very hard at getting settled in, probably too hard. We havenít even been to the beach. We are hoping to go tomorrow.

One year ago today we were putting the finishing touches on Molly's nursery in preparation for the arrival of the baby furniture. Today we find ourselves on the other side of the continent and Molly is really learning to get around. What a difference a year can make!

Molly has learned to open cabinet doors near the floor. I think it's time we step up our baby-proofing efforts around the house.

Shellie and Molly have been sick all week. For the first time in my life I haven't been the first one to get sick and it looks like I may make it through them getting sick without getting sick myself.

Molly now has four teeth in and working on her molars. Those things are razor sharp! Now all we have to do is get her to feed herself and we will be all set.

I'm very sorry that posting has been non-existent over the past few months. Our move to San Diego was long and difficult. We came to know it as "the great migration." We are all in one piece. All of stuff arrived in tact, but not without challenges. The house is coming together and we are beginning to focus on things beyond our four walls. This is a major mind shift from just a couple of weeks ago. We were still hunkered down in survival mode. Shellie has signed her and Molly up for some classes at the Little Gym in Poway, CA, and we are signing Molly up for a waterbabies class at our gym. I can't wait to take her to the waterbabies class. Pretty soon this move will be behind us and we will be making the most out of life, once again.

I have a ton of pictures to process. Molly has really be growing and changing. She is becoming increasingly mobile. I've very glad we moved into a house here in San Diego.
